The
Myitsone, River Confluence
Two
rivers from the Ayeyarwady – the Meikha and Malihka. Their
head-waters delineate the country's northern border, and both have
their source on the slopes of the Hkakabo Razi, which at 5,887
metres (19,314 ft), is Burma's highest mountain. This region, at the
triangle where India, China and Burma meet is so rugged and
impenetrable that few men have ever gone up there.
To reach the cradle of the river, one has to go north from
Myitkyina. After 40 kilometres from Myitkyina, you'll reach the
confluence, a place of exceptional natural beauty and serenity. It
has a mystic quality, a place amidst jungle-convered mountains that
captures not only your senses but also your mind. when the water is
low, you might see huge bamboo rafts drifting through the mingling
rivers that form a rapid where they meet. |
